Eight New Directors Also Named

Michael Tannenbaum Named Hedge Fund Association President February 9, 2003

Washington, DC -- February 9, 2004 -- Michael G. Tannenbaum, a prominent securities attorney serving the hedge fund industry and co-founder and partner of Tannenbaum Helpern Syracuse & Hirschtritt LLP, has been elected president of the Hedge Fund Association (HFA), an internationally recognized industry group.

Mr. Tannenbaum is one of the founding members of the seven-year-old organization and has served on the HFA’s board of directors for the last five years. He succeeds Dion Friedland, who announced last week that he is stepping down after serving as president since the HFA’s founding in 1996.

“The hedge fund industry faces many challenges -- new regulations, institutionalization and portfolio valuation among them,” Mr. Tannenbaum said. “In this environment, the HFA will lead through education and advocate positions that best serve all involved in this growing industry.”

In addition to his work as head of his firm’s Financial Services, Hedge Funds and Capital Markets Practice Group, Mr. Tannenbaum lectures frequently to industry groups and has authored numerous articles on hedge funds. He is a recognized speaker on the political and regulatory environment facing the hedge fund industry, including the global impact of the USA Patriot Act and changes to commodities and futures regulations. In 2003, Mr. Tannenbaum participated in the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Hedge Fund Roundtable in Washington DC. He is a graduate of New York Law School (JD 1970) and NYU Law School (LLM in Taxation, 1971).

Mr. Tannenbaum presides over a Board made up of seven incumbent and eight new Directors:

Representing hedge fund managers: David Hepworth of Interfund Capital Corp (new), Donald Johnston of EGM Capital (new), Salomon Konig of Global Partners Group (new), Waron Mann of Abante Capital (new) and Howard Schachter of Schachter Capital Management (reelected).

Representing hedge fund investors: David Friedland of Magnum U.S. Investments Inc. (new), Roy Gehl, Duet Asset Management Ltd (new), Andrew T. Malloy of Matrix Ascent Partners, LLC. (reelected), Sergio Simone of RJS Private Wealth Management (reelected) and George Van of Van Hedge Fund Advisors (reelected).

Representing hedge fund professionals and service providers: Carol R. Kaufman of SunGard Investment Management Systems (reelected), Michael Lapat of Turn Key Hedge Funds Inc. (reelected), Sara Statman of Statman Consulting, Inc. (new) and Randall Steinmeyer of Milberg Weiss Bershad Hynes & Lerach (reelected).

Directors serve two-year terms and are elected by general membership.

The Hedge Fund Association represents hedge fund managers, service providers and investors formed to foster increased awareness of the advantages and opportunities that hedge funds provide.
